Once conquered by Macedonian King Phillip II, Alexander the Great's father, who gave the town his name, later became one of the most important Roman cities. This is where Paul, the Disciple of Christ, came to preach Christianity and created the first European Christian church. In the baptistry of Lydia we can see the place where the first European woman, Lydia, was baptized and where adult baptisms still take place to this day. Early afternoon, check in to your hotel.

Day 5: 4x4 Jeep tour to Elatia Forest with rustic brunch

After breakfast, meet your driver at the hotel & head to the Forest of Elatia. The legendary Cara Dere. 700,000 acres of orchard vegetation on the Greek Bulgarian border, on the golden section of the pan European and Mediterranean climate zone, with spruce (Picea abies) at its southern limit. On site we will embark to our Jeep 4x4 and enjoy an off-road trip. We will then enjoy our brunch at Stravorema with wine from Drama, local snacks and pies (one of the most beautiful places of the area) along with a local expert.

Day 6: Leisure day in Kavala

Enjoy a relaxed morning and breakfast at your own pace. Spend this free day soaking in the seaside atmosphere of Kavala, relaxing along sandy Aegean beaches, wandering through the Old Town's Ottoman castle, or taking a scenic day ferry to the emerald island of Thassos.

Depart Kavala after breakfast to reach the dramatic Aggitis Gorge, famous for its 100-metre vertical cliffs and prehistoric rock frescoes dating back to 2500 BC.
